ElderCARE
ElderCARE@ChristChurch is a community outreach program of Christ Church. It began at Waukegan’s Victory Memorial Hospital in July 1998. In December 2004 the program transitioned to Christ Church. It continues to be committed to caring for frail, homebound elders, age 65 and above, in northern Lake County IL, who have limited financial resources. We provide a range of free and low-cost community-based services, which help reduce isolation, promote independence and offer encouragement and hope. Trained, caring volunteers from area congregations and the community generously offer their time in many helpful, unselfish ways. They are performing many small acts of great love.
Services provided by volunteers include:
- Friendly visits
- Grocery shopping
- Escorted transportation to medical appointments
In addition to training and coordinating volunteers the staff is also a source of information and referral to other services to assist elders and their caregivers.
ElderCARE is also an access point to Health Watch, an emergency response service. Help is available with the push of a button.
Friendly Visitors
A
caring, trained volunteer can be matched with an older adult who
would enjoy a visit on a regular basis. This can help reduce isolation
and create a friendship which benefits both people!
Grocery Shoppers
Volunteers pick up a list from the care receiver, shop and help put the groceries away. We are not able to take homebound elders to the store to shop. There is no fee for this service.
Escorted Transportation to Medical Appointments
Escorted Transportation provides a reliable, volunteer-based service for homebound elders to get to their medical appointments, promoting wellness and offering peace of mind for them and their family caregivers.
